Widget really got to me tonight. I wanted her to grow up not having all these wacky irrational fears that I hear of people having, and she's at this point now where she's afraid of all these things: Ants, spiders, other kids walking around at the playground, playing on a toy with some other kid, sirens (no matter HOW FAR AWAY they are), the fucking Ice Cream Man. I mean, shit, come on, she LOVES Ice Cream, but if she hears the Ice Cream Truck with its damned song playing ANYWHERE, she turns into a crying snotty sniveling screaming mess who ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE PICKED UP NOW NOW NOW. She knocked me over at the playground today because, while she was on top of the play structure, some other little girl smaller than her APPROACHED the stairs.

I want my child to grow up like I am, not afraid of things, and willing to try new stuff. Who taught her to be afraid of all these things? It's getting old very fast.

Awww

Nobody taught her. She is learning how to deal with the world around her and socialize. She is only two she will outgrow these things hun. It takes time to acclimate thats all. We can help her cope. Hey I almost got her to talk to a little boy today at the playground if that helps. Hang in there. I know it gets to me too sometimes but outward patience will help if she starts to figure it pushes your buttons she will act out in a way we don't prefer more often most likely. Keep plodding parenthood is a looooong strange trip.

I'm not a parent, so my opinions on child-rearing probably will do you jack-crap worth of good...BUT, I was 11 when my younger sister was born, and I remember her going thru a 'buggie buggie AAAA!' phase (she would scream 'buggie' at pieces of lint, f'r goshsakes!). Anyway, she's 22 now and she is pretty much the most courageous person I know. So don't worry about it, don't mock the kid's angst, just let her figure it out on her own & grow out of it.

I'm the "no wimp" type

Whining and wimpiness annoy the heck out of me too....both my kids went through the same things and it is very normal and doesn't last. God only knows what goes through their little heads but one day you will turn around and not have her climbing up your leg to "slay the dragons" anymore. Hang in there!
