Note, I added a piece to the rules, the "People it reminds you of most" aspect.

Rules: List 5 albums that are pivotal to you. Write about a special memory for one song from each album. Tell us who the albums make you think of. Tag 5 friends to do the same.

In no particular order:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
I had HEARD music before this, but I had never really LISTENED to music. Pink Floyd, and this album, gave me that. It changed my musical appreciation from the musical to the lyrical, which still tends to be where it runs today. This album was me and my friends in HS going to the Laser show, hiding out in my friends' apartments late at night and listening to this in the Dark, talking about Quantum physics, Computers, Role Playing Games and any crazy thing that came to our heads. (People it reminds me of: Leland, Emily)

Prince - Purple Rain
More than any other music, this reminds me of good times with my mother, because we'd play this album ALL THE TIME, and SCREECH along to it. When I was younger, I had the same vocal range as Prince, and no shame or self-awareness, and we'd BOTH sing all of the songs everywhere. It reminds me of vacations driving, our overseas trips to places like San Juan and Martinique, and just being totally comfortable with my mother. (People it reminds me of: MOM)

Ani DiFranco - Little Plastic Castles
[livejournal.com profile] siercia had listened to Ani for a long time, but when I tried to listen to it when we were in College and after we graduated, all I heard was an angry young woman who I thought hated men and played weird chords. I KNEW there had to be something good about her, though, and when I heard "Little Plastic Castles", I'd matured enough to understand what it was. She was a poet who sang, and a damn good one. Her music expressed the intent of the lyrics, without just being music for its own sake, which makes it music I can really appreciate. (People it reminds me of: [livejournal.com profile] siercia)

The Cure - Japanese Whispers
This album and its songs to be means only one thing, and that's the summer of 1990, and the most intense experience I had ever known up until that point, my girlfriend at the time. Ironically, it was also the shortest time I ever had a girlfriend, which probably has helped my mind to romanticize it. Every time I hear any song from this album, I immediately feel like I'm 17 again, sitting on the shore of a lake in Chestnut Hill, or napping in the deep grass of the Seminary under the hot sun next to her, or walking down through Boston and being caught in a rainstorm. (People it reminds me of: Julia)

Depeche Mode - People are People
I was a huge DM fan in grade school and H.S., and even now, I still listen to a LOT of their stuff from time to time. This was probably the first album I listened to that had what would now be called "Emo" music. Many late nights were also spent listening to this, drinking, writing bad poetry and pining for various girls either in or NOT in my life. (People it reminds me of: Eric D.)

Friggin Genius
I am not annoying at all. In fact most people come to me for advice. Of course they annoy the hell out of me. But what can I do? I am smarter than most people.

Apparently, my new updated Mindmap is ready. )

I'll have to do a comparison between this one and my last one, unless the last one had a dynamic update occur to it, but I don't think so....
