I haven't been posting as much, mostly because I used to post a fair bit of stuff at work. Work has, for the past 16 months, been definitely INSANE. We thought it would die down over last winter, but we got hit with a lot of left-over issues from last year, some of which we're still dealing with, and so it never quieted down. We also got a new manager, a lot more people, and a LOT more work to do. Had we not hired an entire group for QA for this year, we'd have been well and truly screwed. As it was, we were only mostly screwed.

I have had really NO slack time at all at work. I did, however, decide to use my vacation time this year, so in addition to various travels for weddings, I took real vacation time, sick days, personal days, and just individual days off. When I took these days, some of the time I even got to do NOTHING. I took days off not just because they were the days Hannah was off school, but because I just didn't want to go to work that day. I recommend this for everyone who has a job. :)

I haven't been posting because with less time free all around, and with more things I've wanted to do (snowboarding, singing, racing, gaming, family time, wife time, seeing friends), I've been very protective of whatever personal time I've had, and LJ was just not something that made it to the top of the heap at home. Even my gaming has fallen off a lot from last year. Hell, I've been less active in general, and that's not a particularly good thing.

I haven't been posting because it's been hard to work up the two brain cells to rub together to generate enough sparks to come up with independent ideas some of the time. I've been doing a lot more "instant gratification" things than things that take time and effort to achieve. I'm working on turning this around now. Hopefully it'll happen.

I have been trying to balance this need for ME time (and I have a big need for it, I'm a pig) with the desire to spend time with wife and kid. Kid will never be this age again, and I want to do as much with her as I can. We've hit a lot of birthday parties this year, done some hiking, some geocaching, some kayaking, and I must say in general the kid is up for anything. I like that in a girl. :)

Wife and I have both had tough times at work in the past year(s), and I feel like we're both dealing with the desire for ME time, while knowing we need to spend some more US time as well. We have a nice weekend away this weekend planned in Northampton, just the two of us, some hot tubs, some galleries. I'm expecting it'll be a nice time.

35th birthday this month! I'm simultaneously invested and disinterested in my turning 35. Sure, I'm a pretty well-kept 35, but hey, I'm only getting older. It's starting to be work to keep myself up and moving at Wiley-Speed!

So, that's me. How's all of you?
