Anyone have experience with T-Mobile in the area? How's their service? Reception? Customer service?

Nav and I have it. Both are good. My understanding is that Verizon has the best coverage overall, but that matters less unless you're constantly haring off across the country. ironically, T-mobile is owned by a German telecom and hence has massive coverage where we're going!

Jan Ullrich rides for T-Mobile in the Tour De France!

North and west of Boston, my T-Mobile calls (using a PocketPC Phone) dropped more often than Jan Ullrich in the Pyrenees.

With Nextel, Verizon and AT&T, I never got "Network Busy" errors. Had connectivity issues all the time with T-Mobile.

The entire town of Winchester is a dead spot. Davis Square is spotty, and often busy. Expect lousy coverage on backroads (like Rte. 128 near Wyman St in Waltham).

T-Mobile's customer service doesn't suck nearly as badly as AT&T's. In fact, they have beeen pretty good at times.

T-Mobile uses GSM which comes in handy if you travel outside the U.S.

Yeah. I'm already on GSM with Cingular. I got hooked when I visited Greece in 1999 (on GSM)

Used it. Wasn't impressed with coverage (esp in JP). Switched to VZW. I hate VZ, but VZW works OK.

There are a few noteworthy deadzones, like Belmont and JP. But the service and coverage otherwise are pretty darn good. I have it, and I'm not considering changing.

After using Verizon for about 4 years, I switched to T Mobile. We don't really get service in any part of our house except the southern half. They don't seem to do the 'new every 2' thing to upgrade your phone that Verizon does, which is a little annoying. I like the portability of the GSM network and phones, but I'm half thinking of going back to Verizon for the better coverage. Not sure.

I take that back, looks like they do have deals on new phones with a new 2 year contract. Woohoo.

While the vast majority of my time on T Mobile networks is outside of Boston, the few times I've been there with my SideKick, I've never had a problem with service.

Been with them for > 7 years

Actually started out with Omnipoint, then they became Voicestream and then finally T-mobile.

Overall, pleased with them. The only real time I needed to get service was when I lost a phone... they were pretty quick about decomissioning the old phone and I was able to get a new one the next day.

Coverage is spotty at times. I think there's a small dead spot someplace in Davis... I recall wanting to send a text message but not being able to. Poor coverage down on the Cape and out in the Berkshires, but from looking at Verizon's coverage maps, they aren't much better out there.

I also have T-Mobile, and I find that it's the best service I can get, especially since I travel. I have a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and have great reception, plus I can get the phone and SIM card unlocked so I can service in Europe. There are also a number of T-Mobile hotspots in the Boston area (just about every Starbucks) and that is attached to your mobile bill.

Their Internet packages are too expensive, however. This does not matter if you do not have a smart phone.
