I'm inclined to not be quite as harsh about it; it sounds like the crossing was easily mistaken for a farmer's livestock gate, in which case treating it like an airlock and opening them one at a time makes perfect sense. Why she didn't notice the TRACKS upon opening the gate and before driving in is a bit beyond me, though.
