I'm sorry Senator Kerry botched his joke about the Iraq War, but I am glad he apologized for it, because as he read it, it sounded pretty bad. The point he was trying to make was valid, but his delivery sure needed some work. :(

What was his actual 'apology' statement? Because the report I heard on NPR said he didn't apologize but insisted rather that the servicemen and women 'Knew what he meant.'

Oy. I just watched the video of the remark. Egads, what was he thinking? We expect that kind of thing from Dan Quayle and George Bush, but not from Kerry. :)

I think the "educated" officers as well as High School Graduates that have enlisted and re-enlisted that are serving in Iraq would not understand that this was a joke at all. I and many of them will find it insulting to the service they are giving to our country... to continue to protect his right to say such stupid things and get away with it.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.

It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops."
