volksdragon: (ME)
Seeing as this weekend was my birthday, and I had a LOT of vacation time left over at work, I took both last Friday and Monday off.

Friday: Played some games. Watched a movie. Puttered a fair bit. I was going to have lunch with Siercia, but her schedule got munged around at work, so that didn't happen. Packed clothes for....

Saturday: After breakfast at the diner nearby (#1 in Weymouth!) we dropped Widget off with [livejournal.com profile] whuffle's Mom for the weekend, and then we jetted up to New Hampshire, stopping at the Pantheon of Liquor, the Rt.93 Liquor store rest stop, o how we love thee. We picked up some wine there for later. We stopped at a local Smoked Meat/Cheese place (waay off the "main road" route 106, it's back in the woods probably 3-4 miles. We picked up about $50 of smoked bacon, salmon, steak tips and cheeeeeese.
From here, we headed up to Belmont, NH. Belmont Firing Range is up there, just north of NHIS, and just south of Laconia. [livejournal.com profile] siercia had agreed to try out some shooting range time, to see what all the fuss was about, and lo and behold, she was pretty darn good at it. :) She adapted well to a 9mm Beretta (F92), a Ruger .380, and a Colt 9mm AR15-clone Submachinegun. We spent a nice two hours (and about 400 rounds) up there with the (pretty small) range all to ourselves, no one else came in the entire time we were there!
After that, we continued north, to N. Woodstock, where a friend had granted us use of her condo (near-ish Loon Mountain). We dropped off our stuff, and then headed out for dinner at the Common Man in Lincoln, NH, which was delightful as always. Stuffed Pork Loin (it was huge), some lemonade, and half a pumpkin dessert thingie for me. :)
We retired to the condo after that to drink our wine, and have some hot SCRABBLE ACTION. I won the first game, [livejournal.com profile] siercia won the second, and after that (and most of the bottle of wine), well, things got a little silly. We were trying to make up words, and spent as much time laughing over possible word choice as actually scoring words. After scrabble, I decided to go outside for a little bit (in the sub-30 degree weather) and watch for some Leonid Meteors, for which I was gifted with 5 (including a nice vivid blue one with a pretty trail) in about 20 minutes. Since it was SO dark up there, even though they were faint, they looked pretty good. Siercia joined me for a while, and saw a couple, but the cold got to her, and she headed back in to read. I joined her shortly afterwards, having seen enough Meteors, and watched some evening TV (CSI, I think)

Sunday morning, we got up at a reasonable hour (11am) and cleaned up, packed up, and headed over to Flapjack's Pancake House and loaded up on some HUGE pancakes for brekkie, and then, stuffed, decided a nice drive over the Kancamangus Highway would be pretty. So, we headed up that way, past Loon, waaaaay around towards Bretton Woods, down Bear Notch Road (closed in the winter!), and up 302 North to Franconia, and then down Route 93 again through Franconia Notch. Not only was Bretton Woods Making snow, but it was actually SNOWING (lightly) up there, my first snow spotting of the year. I was pretty stupidly excited.

On the way down 93S again, we stopped in at Ashland, for Dunkin Donuts, a bathroom, and DEER MEAT. Bonnie Brae Farms is a locally owned and operated venison farm which I'd seen when we were vacationing up at White Oak Pond this summer, but which was seemingly closed (well, the deer were there, but the OWNERS weren't). This time they were there, and I got some Venison Steak tips, a venison pot roast, and some jerky sticks. (The steak tips were dinner two nights ago, they were good.)

Back to the highway, we jetted home uneventfully, dropped off all the foods into the fridge, and then turned around to head right back out to "Terra Brasili's" restaurant, in downtown Quincy, MA, where folks were gathering for a birthday dinner for meeeeeee. (Seeing as I love meat, this was a different Brazilian Rodizio steak place from the last one we went to for my birthday, Midwest Grill in Cambridge.) The food was great, the friends were great to have around, and nice Ms.[livejournal.com profile] lorac and her guy made me a cake! Awwww.... After that, it was home for some relaxing evening puttering.

Monday, I slept in a little, woke up and decided to check email. Well, my PC didn't turn on, AT ALL. THe power supply powered on for 4 seconds, and then shut off again. W T F. So, my morning was taken up by PC disassembly, and yes, I mean ALL of it. The whole thing was in pieces on the living room table, and when I put it all back together.... it still didn't work. DAMNIT. I didn't want to be late for lunch with Siercia, so I left it plugged in, and went out to have Thanksgiving dinner with her company. After a brief stuffing, I then headed to the pet store to pick up some new tropical fish for our recently cleaned and conditioned tank. We now are the happy owner of 4 Red Hook Silver Dollars, and 4 Neon Tetras. Widget liked the Silver dollars when she saw them, and Siercia wanted Tetras. I was going to get some Tiger Barbs as well, but I didn't really want any fin-nipping and tetra-eating going on, so I skipped those.

After taking care of all the fish stuff, I went back to mess with the computer, and... it worked. I turned it on, it worked. *twilight zone theme* Oooookay.

Monday night was Messiah Rehearsal. It's close. Eek.

That was my 4 day weekend. A nice birthday, topped off with an Ice Cream Maker for a gift! I can't wait to make me some ice creams!
