I went to church Sunday to practice, and found out we were singing for that service. Riiiight. Crap. My voice was for shit, I've got a low-grade headcold going on, and that always renders me baritonic (and not in a good way) in the mornings. All morning I was drinking hot tea, sucking cough drops, and trying to clear the crap out of my throat.

I muddled through rehearsal, not really able to make any relatively high notes without sounding flat out BAD. I was pretty stressed out. After rehearsal, I made myself some more hot tea, hung out in the bathroom making unpleasant throaty noises, and then just decided I'd sing what I could and the rest be damned.

Wouldn't you know it, we started singing, and my voice was FINE. It was as if I wasn't even sick, it sounded just the same, and we got compliments on how good we sounded. We even sounded good from the inside, we were on just about everything right, and I really got into the songs we were singing.

I'm back to sounding terrible this morning, and singing in the car was a joke. We'll see if I can muster another recovery for practicing The Messiah tonight.

Saturday: Widget was coughing a fair bit, and pretty worn out when she woke up from coughing the night before, so while I took the car to the dealership to get the new remote key cut (the car only came with one valet key, and no remotes), and then took SIX BOXES (big boxes) of books to the book recycling place, Widget and [livejournal.com profile] siercia stayed put, watched TV and movies and sewed. Later that afternoon, she was perky enough to go out and do some Birthday Present shopping for a friend's party coming up soon. Saturday night, Siercia was going out to KNITTY, and as Hannah seemed much refreshed from her day of relaxation, she and I jaunted out for the Church Halloween party in Quincy. Hannah got her first time at the "eat the donut off the string" game, and bobbing for apples. She definitely got the "most determined" award for those.

Sunday: I went to church expecting rehearsal, and got performance. We survived, did pretty well. After that, Hannah and I jaunted off again to that Birthday party, which was at an indoor sports arena. Suffice it to say, Hannah had a great time, and at one point I ended up on my back under a PILE of little kids, being the only adult aside from the Birthday Boy's Dad who wanted to go out and have fun with the kids while they played. Hannah definitely had the hardest hit on the Pinata, and busted it open for LOTS of candy. :)

We got back from the party about 3:30, and immediately dove into carving our pumpkins for Halloween! I did up a Cobra design (the snake, not Stallone), Siercia did a pirate/skeleton design, and Hannah carved her first design all by herself, the "Big Bat Attack!" Aside from a couple of very small curvy parts, she did the entire thing herself, and ended up carving part of her hand, she was so excited! (just a little cut!)

Considering the weather Saturday and the start of Hannah's health, it was a remarkably good weekend.
