volksdragon: (ME)
I hope to update these logs every day or so, more while I'm in transit, and less after I arrive. I'll post them as often as I can, I should have access from work.

After the debacle of the Visa problems, I was expecting almost anything to happen on this trip. So far, aside from one snafu, it's been goooood.

I left work early today after retrieveing my passport with shiny new Indian Visa, so I could finish packing and spend some quality Widget time before I letted off for two whole weeks without her seeing me. She was napping when I got home, so I was able to get everything packed fine. I called for a taxi shortly after she woke up, asked that it arrive at 5:30, and she said she could come get me at 5:20... Ooookay, fine, I can spare 10 minutes extra waiting for the boat. Taxi arrives, I hug Hannah a LOT, and scoot out the door. LEAVING my CD case full of both WORK CDs and DVD movies I planned to watch during my flights/layovers. Of course, I didn't realize it was missing until I got to the Water Shuttle terminal, 10 minutes away. ARGH. So, I called ANOTHER taxi for a very fast drive back to the house to retrieve the CD case and say Goodbye again to a rather surprised Widget. :) Back to the shuttle terminal, I caught the boat just fine (what a nice way to get to the airport from my house, so much fun, and much more relaxing, and inexpensive, than almost any other way to get to the airport.

I survived the Logan International terminal and security procedures quite admirably, after convincing the Lufthansa people that, yes, I really did have a reservation for Frankurt to Bombay, please check again, yes thank you. :) Thanks to some advance planning on my part, I dressed in comfy clothes that didn't require a belt, so no metal there. Similarly, my leatherman tool was packed in my checked baggage, so that was not an issue. Other than that, I did as requested and placed everything in my carry-on bag: wedding ring, keys, wallet, spare change, watch. I left my ear-rings in, as they're so small they never set anything off. And I walked through. The laptop and all contents of the bag scanned uneventfully and I picked everything up and marched on through, stopping only to hand a bracelet some unfortunate traveller had dropped beneath the items tray at the end of the scanning machine.

The net result of all this is that I was now free inside the International terminal at 7:30pm, for a 9:40pm flight. Wheeeeeeeee. I bought a copy of Car and Driver, and one copy of Popular Science for reading if the laptop or gameboy advance begins to bore me. :) No sense in being unprepared!

Speaking of entertainment, I feel I should elaborate on my level of preparedness for keeping myself amused. I pre-loaded my laptop with Battlefield 1942 AND Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2, both of which run just fine. That in itself is good for hours of amusement. But assuming my wrists implode at some point from mousing, I also have 7 or 8 DVD movies, including Lawrence of Arabia, and The Green Mile, as well as Princess Mononoke and a few others. I didn't manage to get "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" out of its shrinkwrap before the taxi arrived. :) I ALSO have a Gameboy Advance I borrowed, along with a copy of Advance Wars. I have two magazines. I have LiveJournal here, although in unconnected more. I have in-flights movies. In short, I am set. :)

So, what am I doing? Well, after enjoying the Airbus 340's rocket-like takeoff, and impressive climb rate to a cruising altitude, we've just passed Halifax, I've had a nice glass of champagne, I'm currently enjoying a nice argentinian Chardonnay, and waiting for dinner to arrive. Yeah, I know, tough life. BTW, we're flying at an altitude of 10,668 meters, and a speed of 1014kph. (35k feet and 627 mph. Not too shabby! Hey, dinner's here. I'll be back!

Okay, dinner was pretty decent. Beef Medallions in sauce, with mixed vegetables. Pretty decent. And now, the brownie and coffee! I have to say, business class has its advantages, like the cognac.

One thing I should mention about me flying: I hate to sleep on the flight, as I always feel like I'm missing out on something if I'm asleep. If I'm asleep, I can't partake of their excellent bar facilities, I can't watch movies, I can't enjoy all the services they offer. Of course, if I DON'T sleep, I'll be dead. I think I'm going to try to stay awake for this flight and through my layover at Frankfurt, and sleep on the Frankfurt-Bombay leg of my trip. That will hopefully give me 6-7 hours of sleepy time. Of course, it also requires me staying awake until the equivalent of 7 or 8am EST, 26 hours awake. Well, it wouldn't be the first time I did that, at least I'll do it in style.

I was very happy to see that all Lufthansa's planes had power plugs in Business Class, which meant my laptop would run the entire trip. I was not as happy to see NO POWER whatsoever when I plugged in the power supply on the airplane. Hmm. Nope, other seat doesn't work either. Pooh. A Stewardess saw me futzing, and came over to help. She enlisted the help of another more senior stewardess who provided me with an adapter that, regardless of the fact the the power adapter of the laptop was rated the same as the indications on the seat's plug, made it so I have power now. And I get to keep the adapter. Woot. :)

So, now I drink the cognac, listen to music that makes me miss [livejournal.com profile] siercia and Widget already, and enjoy the ambience. I'm an international Business Class traveller, a visitor to Asia, another continent for me to conquer. I know, it sounds silly, but I'm excited. Forgive me.
