Trip Stuff
Oct. 3rd, 2003 08:43 pmI went to the Hospital today to see what inoculations I needed for my trip to India. The helpful Doctor Lin-Hwei Chen told me.
FIVE
I needed five injections. Typhoid, Influenza, Polio, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus/Diphtheria. Oh, and possibly Chicken Pox, since I've never had it, PLUS they drew blood from me (twice, that's another story in a second), and I need to get the prescription for the Anti-Malarial drugs. :)
My arms are SORE. There were so many injections, the doctor gave me three today, and I go back in Monday for two more. Two were intra-muscular (into the nice meaty deltoid muscle) so those are the ones that hurt. Oh well.
So, the nice nurse (Karen) gave me my shots after the doctor told me all the horrible diseases I could get in India, as well as informing me of some of the possible side-effects of the options I had for types of injections ("...and in rare cases, Psychosis..." !!!). Karen then drew my blood, gave me a strawberry dum-dum lollipop, and sent me on my merry way.
Out I walked into the courtyard, and sat down to put on my rollerblades (I'd skated to the hospital) and just as I got them back on and ready to go, Karen comes running up to me (outside) saying, "Thank Goodness I found you! You, uh, need to come back inside." Huh? "Well, we need to draw blood again. Uh, the vial rolled off the counter. It broke."
*facepalm* So, I proceeded to give her a very good-natured hard time while we went back in and she stuck the vein in my OTHER arm for more blood, promising to not drop this one. As she was finishing up, I said, "I'd BETTER get another lollipop for this."
I got Root beer. Whee. :)
