B: I wasn't actually referring to any specific gatherings going on soon, it's just something I've noticed it's possible to track.
C: If I felt real bad about it, I'd quietly ask the person about it at an appropriate time.

It is definitely possible to track something like this, and it can be a challenge - do you omit writing about events because there are people reading who weren't invited? I don't think there are any easy answers, except to be aware of the conundrum.
