I know in the movies, they always do that, "explosives in the toothpaste container" (or at least Bond, James Bond does it), but REALLY....

In order to address the higher risk, the Department of Homeland Security has implemented the following new security measures until further notice.

No liquids or gels are permitted to enter the sterile area through the screening checkpoint or be in accessible property or on one’s person except:

* Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling
* Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket
* Insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines

Examples of liquids and gels included in these security measures include:

* Beverages
* Shampoo
* Suntan Lotion
* Creams
* Toothpaste
* Hair Gel
* Other items of similar consistency

Also, you will not be allowed to bring any liquids or gels purchased after passing through the security checkpoint onboard the aircraft. Any beverages you puchase in the airport will have to be consumed before you board.

Remember, "terrorists" would never use a baby bottle to smuggle aboard liquid explosives, it'd be "immoral" or "unamerican", so THOSE MUST be safe.

I get the feeling some major pharma lobbyists snuck the "Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket" one on there. It's going to make it difficult for friends and family to bring back cheap meds. Because, y'know, someone might try to make a pilot take too much tylenol with codeine or something.

I have a non-refundable ticket to fly in a couple weeks. I usually take everything carry-on because I despise wasting time at baggage claim. bleh!!!!

So you're not allowed to take some toilettries on board to clean yourself up before you land? For domestic flights not such a problem, but if you're having someone meet you after a 16 hour flight, you REALLY should be cleaning your teeth first.

And people are supposed to dehydrate on the flight because they can't take a big bottle of water unless they've purchased it at exhorbitant prices inside the sterile area... Once again, a huge issue with long haul flights and time zone shifts.

Actually, you can't even purchase bottled liquids once you get past security. You can only get what they serve on the planes. Yeah, this is going to go over well.

The problem is it's a little hard to drive from New York to London. As for the water issue, they hardly serve you any liquid on planes, so I always take my own. If you're like, well, just about anyone, you're probably going to dehydrate on long flights now. You've done Boston to India - you know how that just ruins you with that horrible air conditioning and depressurising.

One of my coworkers was unfortunate enough to fly yesterday. She arrived a few hours early for a 3:00 flight. The plane didn't take off until 11:00.

As for the actual flight? New York to Boston.
