We have DirectTV, and wondered recently whether it would be any advantage to switch to Dish Network. Same price, but they (Dish) don't hae the only channel we watch with any regularity, BBCAmerica. Everything else on the basic package seems pretty comparable.
We've had DirectTV for a few years now, and we like it. We have the most basic cheap-ass package.
We have DirecTV. I like it quite a bit. It's highly reliable (even up here in the wilds of Maine), probably because we have that new-fangled "electricity" thing. :D
We have whatever package gives us 150 or so channels, including multiple flavors of HBO, Cinemax, et al. The one drawback for us is that we're too far from Portland to get their local channels added to our service (in early 2004) AND the Bangor channels aren't available yet. You shouldn't have that problem, being so close to Boston, but I felt like venting.
I would have to assume that Steve did his homework on Dish Network before deciding on DirecTV. Let me know if you'd like me to find out from him what swayed him.
I haven't really compared them, but we've got the second tier of DirecTV channels (primarily for good baby TV, iirc) and are quite pleased with it. We are currently contemplating getting a DirecTivo box, which I'm not sure is an option with Dish, if you're a Tivo fiend.
